Domesticated Insects
A mixed media series I created for a multimedia class that has continued to evolve. It serves as a critique of the idea of the “perfect” nuclear family highly promoted in the 50’s.
The first entry of the series and a collage piece I created for my Media Studio Imaging course depicting an insect family modeled after the 1950’s American Dream and nuclear family.
The second entry in the series and final project for my Media Studio Imaging class which started as a short animation but ended up being a short collage film. A quick look into the life of a housewife in the 50's....
Warning: There is a bit of blood/gore in the film which can be disturbing.
Short Film Characters
-
Mantis Wife
A lonely but loyal woman who aspires to be the perfect housewife. However, no matter how hard she tries, she can't seem to please her husband.
-
Drone Husband
A strong willed, hardworking husband who tolerates nothing but utter perfection from everything and everyone, especially his wife.
-
Katydid Son
A cheerful boy with a pep or “hop” in his step who is the elder of the two sons.
-
Ant Son
This excitable boy is the younger of two rowdy sons and an avid baseball fan.
The third entry in the series and a Typography assignment for which I had to design a magazine article in the Post Modernist style. This final magazine spread design is inspired by April Greiman's work. The content of the article is the backstory/context for the short film and collage.
